West Coast Production Sale5th Annual West Coast Dorper and White Dorper Production Sale will be held in July 2012 For details and a sale catalog log onto our sale website at www.westcoastproductionsale.com Broadmead Farms of Oregon will again provide an outstanding set of Dorper sheep, while Lewis White Dorpers, Grant's Dorpers and Glenn Land Farm will consign high quality White Dorpers. There will be yearling ewes, fall ewe lambs, spring ewe lambs, yearling rams, fall ram lambs, spring ewe lambs and starter flocks of 5 unregistered commercial ewes. The sale will be held at the Red Bluff, California fairgrounds 140 miles north of Sacramento. Sheep inspection starts at 9 AM followed by a chance to visit with consignors and other Dorper enthusiasts. At noon there will be a free lamb BBQ follow by the sale at 1 PM. Phone bids are invited and a sale catalog with pictures of the sheep will be available 30 days before the sale. The 2011 Sale was held on July 16 th at the fairgrounds in Red Bluff, California . Broadmead Farms of Amity, Oregon consigned an outstanding set of Dorper yearling rams, fall ram lambs, yearling ewes and ewe lambs. Lewis White Dorpers of Bonanza, Oregon brought a popular set of yearling rams, one stud ram, yearling ewes, pairs of ewes and lambs and ewe lambs. Grant Dorpers of Aumsville , Oregon sold a yearling ram, a commercial yearling ram and three pens of 5 commercial ewes. Glenn Land Farm of Orland, California consigned a stud ram, a fall ram lamb, a spring ram lamb, a pen of 3 purebred yearling ewes, a pen of 3 fall purebred ewe lambs, two purebred yearling ewes, a pen of 5 commercial yearling ewes and two pens of 5 commercial ewe lambs.
Those in attendance were treated to a free lamb BBQ prepared by Jane Patton and friends. The weather was a mild 85 degrees which was some 25 degrees cooler than the 2010 sale day, but the enthusiasm for dorper sheep was very high.
Lewis White Dorpers topped the sale with a yearling ram that sold to Bill and
Broadmead sold fall ram lambs to Douglass Farms and to Grant Leininger for $875 each and another fall ram lamb to August Otten from Eagle Point , Oregon for $825 and Casey Boyd from Bishhop , California bought one of their yearling rams for $800. Steve Schmitz selected a yearling ewe for $850 and Casey Boyd purchased one of their yearling rams for $800. Three fall ewe lambs sold for $600-$700 each to round out Broadmead's consignment.
Grants sold their yearling ram for $700 to Lee Hazeltine and Ed Tech purchased their commercial yearling ram for $650.
A popular spring ram lamb of Glenn Land Farm sold to Linda Batcheller for $825 and their fall ram lamb to George Flournoy for $675. Their pen of 3 purebred yearling ewes brought $700 per head from Michael Cantila of Palmdale , California . Their yearling ewes sold for $575 and $525 to Kurragong Farms of Plymouth, California and Raymond Vieira, respectively. A fall ewe lamb sold to Lee Hazeltine for $500. The pen of commercial yearling ewes sold to Berne Marsh for $325 per head, while the two pens of commercial ewe lambs went to Ed Anchordoguy for an average of $295.
